Behavior of Spanish durum wheat genotypes against Zymoseptoria tritici: resistance and susceptibility

چکیده

Aim of study: Septoria tritici blotch (STB), caused by the fungus Zymoseptoria tritici, is one most important wheat diseases worldwide, affecting both bread and durum wheat. The lack knowledge about interaction with Z. together limited resources resistant material, have led to a rising threat for cultivation, particularly in Mediterranean Basin. In Spain, STB has increased its incidence last few years, leading higher costs fungicide applications control disease. Therefore, identification new sources resistance through breeding stands out as an efficient method facing STB.Area experimental study was conducted growth chambers at IFAPA facilities Córdoba (Spain).Material methods: percentage necrotic leaf area, disease severity, pycnidium development image analysis were evaluated from 48 Spanish accessions (breeding lines commercial cultivars) against isolate Córdoba.Main results: Two six cultivars showed responses limiting or reproduction ability, while other 40 presented susceptible response.Research highlights: Provided these genotypes, future programs could be developed, incorporating agronomic traits STB.

Evaluation of Resistance to Zymoseptoria tritici Blotch andFusarium Head Blight in Some Genotypes of Bread Wheat

Using resistant cultivars is an effective method in management Zymoseptoria tritici Blotch and Fusarium Head Blight of wheat. This study was conducted to identify new sources of resistance to these diseases among a large number of Iranian cultivars and new wheat genotypes. The genotypes were cultivated in an augment design in the research farm of Aliabad Katoul Agricultural School. Artificial c...

Virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) for functional analysis of wheat genes involved in Zymoseptoria tritici susceptibility and resistance

Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) has emerged as a powerful reverse genetic technology in plants supplementary to stable transgenic RNAi and, in certain species, as a viable alternative approach for gene functional analysis. The RNA virus Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) was developed as a VIGS vector in the early 2000s and since then it has been used to study the function of wheat genes. Se...

Antifungal activity of hops extracts against the wheat pathogen Zymoseptoria tritici

Searching for alternative methods to conventional pesticides against crop pathogens is an important challenge. In this way, we tested the potential of hops extracts to be used as a bio-fungicide towards Zymoseptoria tritici, the main pathogen on wheat crops in France and Europe. Hops is known for its numerous biological properties such as antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal potential for hu...

Cross-resistance to azole fungicides in Zymoseptoria tritici disease of wheat

approved: _______________________________________________________ Christopher Mundt Fungicide resistance has become an increasing problem in North American populations of Zymoseptoria tritici, the causal agent of septoria leaf blotch of wheat. The goal of this experiment was to determine whether Z. tritici’s resistance to one azole fungicide would predict resistance in other fungicides within t...

Plasticity of the MFS1 Promoter Leads to Multidrug Resistance in the Wheat Pathogen Zymoseptoria tritici

The ascomycete Zymoseptoria tritici is the causal agent of Septoria leaf blotch on wheat. Disease control relies mainly on resistant wheat cultivars and on fungicide applications. The fungus displays a high potential to circumvent both methods. Resistance against all unisite fungicides has been observed over decades. A different type of resistance has emerged among wild populations with multidr...
